Annas of the SSAP gathered at the Monastery of the Holy Spirit for their Simplicity Vow retreat on May 5, 6, and 7.
The title of the retreat was “Come and Be”. Using as our guide the ancient quote “Bidden or Not Bidden God is Present”,we opened ourselves to the constant presence of God at all times and sought to draw near through times of sitting, examining poetry, art work, crafting simple “Breath” beads and group discussion.
Whenever we entered the retreat space we ignited a spirit candle as a reminder of our commitment to being present and upon leaving let the light remain within us as we extinguished our candle.
We enjoyed a Celtic morning prayer each morning and used a version of Night Prayer from the New Zealand Prayer Book.Annas also attended some of the Liturgical hours of the Trappist brothers when they felt led to do so.
